We started off with standing over him and guiding his hands using a pencil on paper. We would do the alphabet and very simple sentences. When they are young, their hand muscles can not really grab a pen properly. So we used the chalkboard. It appears they have better control using the chalk and board. We dashed out a sentence. The baby loved to draw over the dashed lines. Eventually he did not need the dashed lines any more. If they do not draw the letter properly with the hand movements keep correcting them or else it will form a bad habit. For instance, in the video above Jax will sometimes use the motions to draw an “e” in a strange way. You have to keep showing them the proper movements by holding their hands while doing it.
